Kendal U15’s Vs Vale of Lune U15’s
25/11/2007
Kendal U15’s found themselves short of the full 15 this morning when they arrived at
The Vale of Lune. This was due to several injury’s and several players having commitments else were. But as usual the core of the team where there, extremely eager and up for the challenge.
Vale kindly gave two of there subs (Duncan and Frank) the chance to play for Kendal. Bringing the side up to 15 and allowing Kendal a sub and with a few of the Kendal lads stepping into positions they did not usually play the game kicked off.
Five minutes into the game the Vale of Lune pushed Kendal back and from within the 22 they produced good ball from their scrum and passed quickly out wide with a miss pass and with a good run from there No15 they broke through the Kendal defence and scored.
For the next 20 minutes the Vale kept pushing forward but was kept back by some outstanding defence especially from the Kendal forwards who were having one of the best performances to date. But the weakened back line for Kendal were not having
the best of games and were a little to flat with not enough penetration into the Vale defence.
And when Captain Chris Downham acting as a Centre did break the line his supporting backs were a bit too slow and progression up into the Vale half was stopped short on a few occasions.
Half time
The second half started much the same way as the first half had with the Vale No13 scoring within the first 5 minutes.
Kendal pushed up a few times over the next 20 minutes but could not break the Vale defence down. With 10 minutes left Vale scored again and a very nice run from the No13 with a dummy pass and side step which secured them their 3rd try of the game. Which they then converted bringing the score to 17-0.
With the last play of the game in hand the Kendal players pushed hard and with some brilliant continuity ball managed to get with in five metres of the Vale line. But the ball squirted out of the ruck and the vale players then managed to scramble the ball up and run half the pitch before being tackled into touch. A crying shame Kendal never got the try but hard work none the less from the lads.
Full Time: Vale of Lune 17 – 0 Kendal
Although this was not one of Kendal’s best days the team had with out doubt given a very gutsy performance with some very good individual performances from Chris Downam ,Joe Robinson and Josh Chaplow to mention a few.
Kendal’s man of the match went to Josh Chaplow
