Kirkby Lonsdale U15’s Vs Kendal U15’s 20/1/2008
At Kirkby Lonsdale home ground
This is always a match both teams look forward to as it is considered the local derby so both coaches fielded strong sides.
Kick-off
Right from kick off the Kendal forwards got stuck in with a lot of ball winning rucks
and very strong scrummaging. Play focused mainly in the middle of field with not one team being able to make a break through until Kendal Fly-Half Jordan Davis kicked the ball into the space behind the Kirkby back line, The Kendal backs then put pressure on managed to wrap the ball up ,with which the Kendal forwards drove the Kirkby forwards back over there own line. From the resulting 5 meter Kirkby won against the head and kicked for touch, but with pressure from Kendal back row they only managed to get the ball 5 up field. The Kendal forwards then won the line out and No7 Joe Robinson charged over the line for Kendal’s first try. From which No15 Dan Lowther converted with ease to put Kendal 7 points up.
The Kirkby pack camped out in the Kendal half for the remainder of the 1st half but were held up repeatedly by the Kendal Forwards. The whistle went to end the first half.
2nd Half
Kirkby Lonsdale came out very strongly at the start of the second half as Kendal new they would. Both teams again tussled for field position. Nothing came until the Kirkby No10 was pressured into making a mistake. He couldn’t decide who to pass to and his two centres got in the way of each other leading to a fumble. This left an opportunist moment for the Kendal Scrum-Half Conor Giggle to put a boot to ball to send it 20 meters up the pitch. Being chased down by one Kirkby player he then managed to put boot to ball again with which Dan Bell , the Kendal Winger who had managed to get into a supporting position, kicked again and took it over the line, himself and the Kirkby player then both dived to ground the ball. The unpredictably of a rugby balls bounce made sure they both missed but Giggle was there to pounce on the ball .A reward for his good work and Kendal’s Second try. The No15 Dan Lowther who was having a good kicking day converted .
At this point Kirkby came back into the game very hard with 20 Minutes to go. Kirkby drove Kendal deep into there half and from a resulting kick for touch a Kirkby player caught the ball and charged over the line. The Kirkby kicker missed the conversion. The Score then standing at 5-14
After the restart, Kendal forwards again putting in a massive effort kept the remaining play in the centre of the field. with some excellent performances from No4 Josh Chaplow, No5 Dennis Jackson and No1 Dom Musetti When the ball then did go wide from the Kirkby attack the Kendal backs defence was fast to close them down and allow very little forward momentum ….
Final whistle…. Kendal 14 -5 Kirkby Lonsdale
Man of the Match voted by Kendal Head Coach: Dom Musetti for tremendous forward play.
Special thanks must be given to the Kendal subs there that day Few got a game but all gave great support throughout the entire match, cheering on the team to a well deserved win.
