Kendal Colts 3 – Altrincham Kersal 10


With one of the toughest games in the season, Kendal senior colts met early to talk though the team tactics before Altrincham Kersal arrived.

The game got off to a slow start with both teams making simple errors, and the ref testing out his new whistle. The Kendal side were caught a few times dosing with the ball allowing Altrincham to charge it down and stop them getting into any momentum.

The Kendal side were first to put points on the board after good pressure from the forwards and backs forcing Altrincham to kill the ball at a ruck. A penalty 10 metres in from the touch was knocked over by Jacobs for 3 points.

That seemed to be awake up call for Altrincham, and it was not long until they were showing why they had not been beaten in the last 2 years. Their forwards pressed up the middle of the park, tying up the Kendal defence then with a quick ball from the back of a ruck the Altrincham scrum half gave a long pass blind to release the winger to score in the corner, their kicker made it 7 points.

Going into the half time 7 – 3 down the Kendal side knew the 2nd half was going to be a hard one. From the restart Kendal took the ball well with safe hands Boardley setting up a good maul allowing Jacobs to clear his line. But it was not long before Altrincham were back in the Kendal’s 22 after several missed tackles. With the ref now been given a life membership at Altrincham! They were award a penalty for Kendal holding on. There kicker made no mistake making it 10 –3.

With a few minutes to go the Kendal side took a quick restart with Jacobs knocking it long into the Altrincham’s 22, but the ref signalled last play so all the Altrincham winger had to do was kick it out of play.
