Leigh 2nds 0 Kendal 2nds 20

Kendal travelled to Leigh knowing a win would guarantee promotion and keep the opposition at arms length for the title. Leigh have 2 games in hand but trail Kendal by 7 points.
Kendal played with a strong wind at there backs and for the first 25 Min's Leigh's defence held strong through the constant battering by Kendal. It was a day when the game would be won and lost in the forwards and the backs would just need to keep things tight. Boardley got Kendal off the mark with a penalty for an infringement in front of the sticks. Even when Leigh did get the ball the wind would not allow them to kick out of trouble. Play was held up while a Leigh player was treated for a nasty knee injury thankfully not as bad as was first thought. This did not stop Kendal's momentum though and again wave after wave of pure Kendalian beef pounded the line eventually Gary Holmes was rewarded with a try from a driving maul Boardley converted for a 10.0 lead. Leigh did though use there forwards to great effect and move up field and put pressure on Kendal's line, however the defence held firm for a sustained period and almost broke for a try of Kendal's own. 10.0 half time.

Kendal were now going to have to put in there hardest working 40 Min's of the season into what was now a blustery hail storm. Leigh did not have the kicking game of Kendal's and were going to try and wear Kendal down upfront. unfortunately they had not planned on coming up against a team that were equally as up for the fight and showed a maturity beyond its years with this show. Kendal's scrum was immense with Bowles, Wharton and Quarry the foundation all afternoon. The backrow of Nicholson, Holmes and Ross tackled to a standstill and turned plenty of ball over with Holmes unlucky not to release Postlethwaite on the wing. Tomlinson was winning his share of ball and disrupting the opposition line out allowing Kendal to keep things tight and wear the opposition down with the driving maul, even Michilini was adding his weight to the forwards on several occasions. Leigh did try to release there lively backs but were knocked back by a thunderous tackle from Ashley and Kendal again started to attack. Joel Howse was the man of the match with a top draw performance in the line and loose never taking a backward step and keeping Kendal going forward. Kendal though managed to get into a scoring position and Leigh gave away a penalty through frustration at Kendal's ability to starve them of the ball Boardley converting 13.0. Leigh kept trying to pin Kendal back in the corners but once there could not get the ball back and on several occasions Kendal gained 30 or 40 yards using the driving maul. Hattam replaced Nicholson and Cartmel replaced Quarry after both players had worked themselves to a standstill. Leigh were now tiring and void of ideas allowing Kendal to get in behind and create space for there runners and with seconds left Holmes completed his brace and Boardley converted 20.0. After the game Steve Bowman said he had not seen a better 40 mins of rugby by a Kendal second team ever and it was a great reward to get promotion through hard work and most of all an excellent team spirit echoed throughout the club.
