KRUFC Supporters Club
Just over a decade ago, Peter Davy, John Kremer and John Chew had the vision to formulate the Supporters Club. In principal the idea was to assist players with unseen expenses, such as loss of wages, providing refreshments on away trips and at that time, when Kendal were in National 2, some four or five games per season were in or around London. Items such as a new pair of rugby boots and at one time even a babysitter’s fee seem now to be trivial items, but when a lad did not have ready cash available how important did these gestures become.
How things snowballed, with our success on the field and National League rugby ensuing, so the supporter’s club membership grew to an all time high of 60+ members, and their generous subscriptions enabled spending to attain new levels. We were now assisting with air fares to bring overseas players to Kendal, providing medical treatment expenses to allow players a speedier recovery and a quicker return to rugby, assisting with the cost of the new floodlights which must benefit all players.
Peter and the two Johns (THE THREE WISE MEN) decided before the end of the 06/07 season to finally hang up their boots, and in their words, pass the running of the supporter’s club into the hands of younger people. I, Ron Hayes, applaud them for their confidence in asking me to formulate a group of younger members albeit that I shall be 70 years young next year. Before I mention our team of ‘younger supporters’ I would like to pay tribute to Peter, John and John. Over the years in excess of £30,000 has been spent on various excellent causes and a huge thank you must go to all members of the supporter’s club for making this money available.
The Young Ones
We are adopting exactly the same format as the THREE WISE MEN used. Membership sadly has dropped to approx 30 members so we are looking to recruit on a big scale. Membership fees are a minimum of £30 per annum, any sum greater than this would be much appreciated. In return gentlemen will be given our exclusive Black and Amber tie and the lady a club scarf, but far more important is the knowledge that you will be assisting our playing and coaching staff. We shall spend money carefully and no individual member of our team will have the right to make decisions as to the spending of monies. Our Team, On Your Behalf

If you feel you can assist by becoming a member please contact any one of the above. Cheques payable to K.R.U.F.C SUPPORTERS CLUB may be handed to any one of us or posted to: Mr Peter Sharp Arnold Greenwood Solicitors 8 & 10 Highgate Kendal Cumbria LA9 4SX
We are quite excited about taking on the role and we will strive to achieve the expertise attained by our predecessors. To Peter, John and John enjoy a well earned retirement and we look forward to seeing you and all fellow supporters at Mint Bridge for many years to come. Have a good season.
