Kendal played Waterloo on Saturday for the first time in five years, and finally came away with the spoils after a tense, mistake-ridden, contest which went right to the wire.

Waterloo were fighting for their lives to avoid relegation, Kendal were striving to get their side back on track after a topsy turvy season. The black and ambers just about deserved it, mainly because of the dominance which their forwards showed at crucial times. Their greater experience was vital at crucial times, with Gareth Gore and Craig Wilson winning lots of crucial ball in the line outs, and the scrummaging technique of the whole pack pressurising Waterloo at vital periods, particularly in the last quarter when the Lancashire lads were going for a decisive try. Richard Harryman was outstanding in the close quarter exchanges, and Ian McDowell and Craig Wilson gave him valuable support.

Waterloo started off well, and caught Kendal cold, working down to the clubhouse end, and gained a simple touchdown awarded to Carl Nolan, after a catch and drive from a close in lineout.
