Some more chit chat, by Garry Two wins out of two, but no bonus points, the final 4 weeks of this half of the season has got off to a good start. The first half against Broadstreet was really good to be part of, however the 2nd half seemed to end as a stalemate. It's very hard to play rugby against a team that wants to kill the ball and fight.
Did anyone see Mark Ireland’s new shiny blue boots? I’m pretty sure the ball must be slipping off them, as he seemed to enjoy hitting the uprights throughout the match, but the ball still found a way of sneaking over the bar. The 30 – 5 win was deserved, but I think the support will agree, it could have been a lot more. After refereeing Kirkby Lonsdale Under 15’s on Sunday morning, the Afternoon saw the annual Players’ cheese and wine event, an opportunity for the players to relax with partners and each other, while attempting to tell the difference between every single type of wine available……. Twice. By all accounts, highlights of the afternoon must be Al Martindale leading a ridiculous drinking game including using every card in the deck, and more often than not drinking after every card. Also Richard Harryman showing that becoming a father again is hard work, as stories say later on, he saw his grapes a 2nd time and tried blaming it on someone else (a certain young second row). Needless to say Monday morning at work is a no no! Leading up to the Waterloo game I had a really bad week. I came down with Swine Flu…… Well a cold, but I felt rubbish, meaning I could not train Tuesday, and was off work Wednesday and Thursday, but trained Thursday night. Feeling like my lungs might explode, Thursday night training was more than hard work. Also, my girlfriend’s work place, who were victims of recent flooding, were told by the insurance to reduce outgoings. This meant that a number of staff were being made redundant until the hotel can open again around about May time. Unfortunately, she was part of the staff. Saturday Morning I was refereeing QKS against Kirbie Kendal Yr 7, what a great standard that was! QKS defended really well, Kirbie Kendal showed structure, and were willing to spin the ball in not so great conditions. Kirbie Kendal came out winners by 4 tries - 0 but QKS can take heart that with a little more work on attack they could have been contending. The game finished, and I was on the bus to Waterloo within 5 minutes. The Waterloo game was hard work - we defended really well for the last 20 minutes. Scotty nearly secured the win with a drop goal attempt but saw it fade away from the right upright. Matt Gracie was back, and in good form, bizarrely coming on as a blood replacement for Voorts, who needed stitches in his ankle. Chris Park made a brilliant try saving tackle at the end of the match. Huddersfield this weekend, What a game this always is! They have yet to beat Kendal ever, and we are building momentum. I think this should be a good hard encounter. I predict a Kendal win but we really need our support behind us! Garry Holmes Friday, 11th Dec.2009 |
