Kendal 2nd XV 36 Carlisle 2nd XV 7

In atrocious conditions, Kendal made a slow start to the game, & it was not until late in the first half that Kendal got to grips with the game, turning pressure & possession into points, when the experienced No.8, Billy Coxon, crashed over for a try, converted by Matt Houghton, after a quickly taken tap penalty close to the Carlisle line.
Carlisle hit back on the stroke of halftime when they got the shove - on at a 5 metre scrum, to go on & score a converted try, to level the scores at the break.
As conditions deteriorated during the second half, Kendal dominated proceedings, as they wore Carlisle down, scoring five second half tries. They allowed centre, Matt Houghton, to blast his way through the defence & score besides the posts - he converted his own score.
Soon after another powerful Kendal scrum saw Coxon burst over for his second. The fourth try came when Kendal pushed Carlisle off their own put-in, & Andrew Quarry turned the ball over to score, Houghton again converting.
Second row Ben Leacock added a fifth after Houghton's strong running had again caused havoc with the defence.
Coxon's surging 30 metre run to the line, after his pack had created the opportunity for him, completed his hat-trick and rounded off the scoring - Kendal winning by 36 - 7.

Kirkby Lonsdale 2nds 21 - Kendal 2nds 44

Kendal completely dominated their Raging Bull Cumbria 2 encounter at Kirkby Lonsdale with the exception of the final ten minutes of the game by which time they had literally run themselves off their legs in the process of scoring their 8 tries.
Kendal opened the scoring in the sixth minute, the forwards - with Dan Boardley & Rob Wightman to the fore - quickly recycled ruck ball which was swiftly moved along the back line to right wing Mark Cottam who made a wonderful catch off his boot laces to cruise in at the corner for an unconverted try.
Nine minutes later with the Kendal pack already holding a dominate hand a scrum on halfway proved the perfect platform for stand-off Leo Mercer, who had a great game in the 10 shirt, to ghost his way through the defensive line on an arching run to the tryline to give Kendal a ten nil lead. Credit must be given to the front row of Calvert Gilpin, Matthew Jackson, Dan ,& impact sub Ben Grunnill, who provided a very solid platform all afternoon for young scrumhalf Matty Kaye to distribute quick ball to the Kendal back line. This caused Kirkby so many problems.
Kendal's third try came on twenty one minutes & from a very slick move off a free kick just outside the Kirkby twenty-two. Quick hands saw the ball passed to returning centre, Mike Childs, who drifted passed the defence to touch the ball down for a try, converted by winger Jordan Johnson.
Four minutes later and a piece of brilliance from Johnson to field a ball inches from touch & almost immediately pirouette away from the clutches of the on rushing tackler. He then flipped the ball inside to the supporting Mercer & for him to then race in for Kendal's fourth try - was amazing to watch.
The halftime score was Kirkby Lonsdale 0 - Kendal 22
Kendal started the second half where they had left off the first - scoring a try in the second minute. Again the ball was quickly won at the breakdown and whipped along the backline with centre Tony Bingham providing the final pass for Johnson to race in for his second.
After Kirkby Lonsdale had scored a good converted try to put their first points on the board in the forty-seventh minute, Johnson completed his hat-trick in the fifty-forth minute, when the sterling efforts of the Kendal backrow of Ash Hill at No.8 & Josh Chaplow on the flank, combined to put Johnson in the clear to score his third.
Kendal's seventh midway through the half was scored with sheer determined & no little skill from Kendal's other flanker ,Liam Nicholson, whose terrier like instincts secured turnover ball all afternoon for the visitors. He then turned into a human pinball wizard to ricochet his way through the Kirkby defence & then race 45 metres to touchdown beneath the posts. Johnson converted to extend the lead to 7 -39. Nicholson was replaced, after his lung busting efforts, by Kendal's other impact sub James Cox.
Mark Cottam scored his second when fullback Peter Baynes linked well to create the opportunity, & excellent close quarter hands put Cottam clear up his wing & he won the foot race to the try line. The conversion was missed but Kendal were ahead by 7-44.
To Kirkby Lonsdale's credit they never gave up battling & created enough territory & possession in the final ten minutes to score two converted tries to make the final score line 21 -44.
Kendal now look forward to the top of the table clash against the tough Moresby side at Mint Bridge next Saturday.

KENDAL 27 - PENRITH 5

Kendal opened their Raging Bull Cumbria 2 league campaign against local rivals Penrith and with probably their best performance of the season came away with the spoils by 27 - 5

Kendal dominated for large parts of the game and scored their first points in the tenth minute when second row Rob Wightman was driven over the try line by his pack after excellent build up play. Kendal's second try came fifteen minutes after some superb handling & passing by several players saw left wing Jordan Johnson finish the move with an unconverted try in the corner.

The Kendal forwards were again heavily involved in Kendal's third try with flanker James Cox touching down for the score which was converted by standoff Luke Jacobs.
Penrith scored what turned out to be their only points of the came when they scored an unconverted try moments later.

Kendal added two further tries before the final whistle. Firstly prop Dan Reid drove over from a tap penalty close to the try line & then fullback Peter Baynes deservedly scored a breakaway try.

Hawcoat Park 1st XV are pushed all the way by Kendal 2nds
Kendal hosted the runaway Cumbria League leaders at Mint Bridge for their first game of 2013. The visitors scored the game's opening points midway through the first half when their left winger sped clear to score wide out. A superb touch line conversion gave them a 0- 7 lead. On the the stroke of halftime Kendal stand-off Nathan Wooff kicked a penalty to put the first points on the board.
Wooff was heavily involved in Kendal's try early in the second half. He swooped on a pass just inside the Kendal half & raced up field, being chased down by the Hawcoat Park winger. He passed out to centre, Graham Coulter, in great support, for him to score. Wooff added the conversion to give Kendal a 10 - 7 lead.
Unfortunately, moments later, a Kendal clearance kick was charged down for Hawcoat Park to score a converted try.
As the larger, more powerful Hawcoat pack took charge in the last fifteen minutes, they scored two further tries, one of which was converted, for a final score of 26 - 10.

Furness 1st XV 32 Kendal 2nd XV 8

We started well & a good Nathan Wooff penalty levelled the scores at 3 a piece. An unfortunate 5 metre scrum led to Furness's first try which was converted just before halftime to make it 10-3 at the interval. They added to that an unconverted try, & then the Kendal backs hit back with an unconverted try scored by Leo Mercer to pull us back into the game. But as the match progressed, the experience of being a 1st XV told for Furness & they made that tell, scoring 3 tries in the last quarter.
